YELLOW WALKER
Yellow walker – pen and prismacolor pencil with collage element on paper – 1997
There were a few years in the 90s where I drew a handful of these intricate biomechanical, cybernetic, creatures and structures, in pen on paper and also in airbrush on canvas.
I had just discovered H.R. Giger’s work and i was blown away by the intense attention to detail and the strange world he had created.
shortly after, I decided to try my hand at a few giger inspired creations of my own. While I consider his art masterful and elegant, my versions have taken on more corroded and twisted form, an amalgamation of demons and machines.
There’s something oddly Therapeutic about hunkering down for several hours and hyper-focusing on the markings that make up one of these giger-style drawings. To get into the grime and dust, the scratches and imperfections, hypnotizing.
when done right, and all the little scrawls fall perfectly in place, it imbues the drawing with so much character.
most of the time.
